Well, hey guys. I'm 15 years old,  and i realize i have this...thing. I want to explore it fully, control it, rather than supress it, i wanted to know if anyone felt this way and if you could help me, its affecting my grades, i am naturally smart, its just im getting to distracted now a days, and the problem is that i am really good at it, i can daydream about anything, anytime, right now i consider it a good and bad thing

I was in the exact same spot in high school - super smart but daydreamed like crazy! I was always super-stressed, and because I was smart I tried to do too much at once and eventually crashed my junior year. I graduated (barely), but it took awhile for me to recoup.

So here's my advice: Don't try to do too much at once! Just because you can handle something intellectually doesn't mean you can handle all the homework involved. Don't be afraid to take a break (or a lower-level class) if you need to. And, this is up to you, but I would strongly suggest you tell someone at home or school about your daydreaming problem. Parent, teacher, councilor, principal, etc. Not all teachers will be sympathetic (or even believe you), but it will help you so much to have someone who will fight for you. My mother did this for me, and I will be forever grateful to her for that.

So basically, just remember that slow and steady wins the race. And that high school does have an end. :)

Hi!
My name is Jennifer, and I'm 15, too. :) Glad there's someone else on the site who's my age. If you ever want to talk to me one-on-one, you are more than welcome to inbox me or leave me a comment on my profile...I know we're stuck in high school while dealing with MD, so life is even more confusing and hard to handle for both of us. :-(
I'm always here to discuss with you!

It helps to write or type out your daydreams. Meditation can also be helpful; sometimes when I find myself distracted mentally, I tell myself to be in the present moment and it works. It's also important to set aside a specific time of the day for daydreaming because if you try to suppress it all at once, it can fail. Set aside maybe 30 minutes or 1 hour for daydreaming and then try to be busy the rest of the day.
