For the past, like year and a half (I think) I've had one continued daydream in one continued universe. However, I've split the daydream into 3 parts (kind of like skins, with different generations) each with multiple seasons and 'episodes' (though these are less defined) in each.

The daydream itself has become a complete addiction- annoying, yes, but not so much that I actually want it to stop. Through each generation the characters change slightly, as do the situations and even the type of 'genre' the daydream is. For example the first generation was an idealised self one, which was all action and romance and drama. Then I got bored of that, and made a massive plot twist so that it turned out it was all a coma dream (good old stereotypical soap opera twist there haha).

The second generation was a continuation from there, with me- now transgender as I wanted a male lead- the only continued character apart from my love interest. The plot kind turned quite taboo from there, but also weirdly began to turn somewhat science finctiony and supernatural, the main (Barney, my namesake here) gained this sprit attachment which allowed for out of boy experiences etc. This also introduced a whole lot more action and other characters with powers, yet the origins were never explained.

Then I sort of killed off all the main characters, fast forded like 15 years into the future into the third generation. This time there were loads more characters and its recently gone massively in depth into the origin of these powers. Its gone all 'third eye', sprits and energy levels, along with lots of hijacked characters from game of thrones and ideas from teen wolf, including the massive magical nematon tree and warging abilities. I've come up with new religious and governments cults and clubs, along with loads of new charismatic psychopaths and a ton of violence and gore haha. Its all gone a bit crazy, the team now tackling the upcoming chaos in which everyone but a minority have their third eye closed, sprits, doppelgangers, sirens, demons, children of the forest (yes vaguely based on got) whilst also fighting off Dany, a fire wielding annoyance who is in charge of a large government study of those with powers, alongside a demon-lead religious group. With lots of guns. And sprits. I swear to god I gave up trying to make my daydreams realistic a year ago!

Sorry for the ramble, my first time posting on here- my social anxiety continues onto the internet and I find it near impossible to have any active online presence *yey*Anyone else have a variety of characters all functioning within one universe with set laws?

That's so interesting- so would you say because you view your daydream as a story, that its more factual and less visual, as often in mine its far more like a tv show than a book (no internal monologues or anything like that, all dialogue)?

Also I've got to say all the scientific detail in yours sounds pretty epic, science was one of my worst subjects in school, so reading up of different chemicals and laws of physics never really triggers mine- its all far more based on magic and urban legends, with a vague bit of sciencefiction thrown in! That and you can go back and change details and have that run its course simultaneously, something about my daydreams just prevents me from doing that, its far more linear (which gets massively annoying if I want to go back and change something). That and I can only have one running daydream at a time, but I tend to have several, in depth characters each with their own story arcs which I kind of grow attached to and can't let go till they run their course.

In terms of characters I also tried to write down names, their first storyline and when they were introduced, whether they were still alive or not (ha) and their age, but by the time I'd covered the main ones I'd come up with about ten more, so that idea kind of flopped.

Have you ever considered writing your daydreams out? You mentioned they were longer than normal books, but they sound so detailed and original. Often I get annoyed that I knick ideas from existing stories and tv shows, as writing it down (despite the story being completely different) just feels a bit fake.

Now I'm rambling, thanks for the reply btw

I call my daydreams stories, and the course of my stories can be devided into books, and these books also have their own parts and within these, chapters. Whene I tried to write some stuf down, I noticed that it was way too long to fit into the book as I imagined it. So even though one book in my head, is 3 books on paper, I call them books.

I have multiple universes, all with their own laws and logic that are unique to it. All of them are fantasy-sciencefiction, as in; I made up my own laws of fysics and these are the core of the story. A lot of the stories have extra chemical elements (such as Turbon, the godlike element that produces powerfull energy, depending on its spectral(color) that can be easely used by anyone for engines of ships, defence shields, or waponary) or unreal anatomy (a seperate bloodcirculation in the brain for hormones only, for example) and a lot more, I don't want to go too much in dept here. Only a smal minority of my stories happen on earth, I make up my own worlds. (Breinsoup, a dimension filled with both dreams and nightmares; Altra, a planet that is practicly on fire; Ellemmia, a world made up by only the four klassic ellements; Orion, a galaxy where nothing is human;...) My characters discover that worlds and naturelaws (and are therefor often adventurers and/or scientists) and so get my stories created. Because of this, a simple scientific article or wikipedia page is the most effective trigger there is for me.

However (I drifted a little off, sorry), For me there are two seperate timelines: the course of the stories, and the course of their development. I regularely change a law or rule, and than I reimagine the entire story again. Instead of just continuing from where I was, with the changes. From your description it seems like the bones of the story change for every new season, while the charcters stay the same (even though you ad a lot of extra superhuman charcters). In my stories, the changes go unnoticed because I replay everything while taking the new rules in account, this can lead to entirely different scenario's.

So yeah... I forgot why I was writing this, but to answer your question: yes I have a HUGE variety of characters. Not even half of them are human and only 94 of them have names. (I trie to keep track of that number by writing them down on a word-document). All these characters are not from the same story in my case though. But I have already been connecting stories by linking the worlds with eachother and that has spawned a lot of other stories, but I don't devide them into 'books' yet because they're not 'fixed' yet. They are just meaningless dreams that need to stick around a little longer so I can develop them completely, if you understand what I mean.

It's cool how subjects can change from ordinary soap-like scenario's to confrontations with magical, cryptid, mythological or alien creatures in alternated (or completely invented) worlds. Inventing your own species and laws, makes it a lot more fun ;)
