Hello Harshit. I'm a new member myself and this is my first interaction.
i started MDD when i was about 4. I am 30 now and i can say i have lived half a life. I have always been the smartest in my entire school, but as i grew older my MDD became worse and i started failing classes. as a result i sank deeper and deeper into depression and came close to suicide. I guess what i am trying to say from my own experience is that i think you should address the problem early on so that it wouldn't leave such scarring consequences on your future.
- Regarding Therapists and Psychiatrists, it is true that this is a new field and few specialists are aware of it, but i recommend following up with one anyway in case it kept progressing, if it is possible, someone who is up to date on recent medical literature and published data.
- Studying in public places (libraries, cafe, at a friend's house...) was helpful for me to focus on my studies. When i am alone, i would leave post-it notes all over the room that say MALADOPTIVE to remind myself to get back to reality. i also wrote notes on my hands or my books to get myself back to studying when i felt i was letting go of reality. Another thing i used to do when i found it hard to concentrate, i would incorporate my studies in my daydreams, like i would imagine myself reciting the subject infront of the whole school (that way you have to actually read it!) or that i was tutoring a friend.
- Try to identify and avoid the triggers to your daydreams.
- Another escape i found was in books and games. when i sense that i have been daydreaming too long i would force myself to read a book to get my mind away from the dream.
- Later on, the best terminator of my daydreams was work. I intentionally became a workaholic. (But you don"t have to do that. It wasn't really healthy)
here are some resources that i found online that address the issue, hopefully they will be helpful for better understanding:
