My Last Attempt at Medication and Psychiatrist Results Part 4 [ADD and MDD link?]

Hi! I'm back.

So with school starting and homework piling up on my desk ... I have gone to see the psychiatrist... again.

So, this time I came back with more confidence and he told me to get myself tested for ADD : Attention Deficit Disorder. He prescribed me Wellbutrin, which is similar to Adderall but not as intense and it also treats depression.

[First time in 2012, being so new to MDD, my psychiatrist and therapist thought I was schizophrenic with OCD and Dissociative depersonalization vibes and I remember being prescribed Risperdal, an anti-psychotic, but I read way too many reviews saying it made people sleepy and sedated all day. I was also prescriped Prozac for depression, but again, I've read too many reviews saying prozac only made them happy but it didn't help them with daydreaming. ]

This time I didn't make the same mistake. I told him about the movie "Walter Mitty" and that I had the exact same thing: Vivid daydreams of characters with names, plots, adventures and a whole world of mine in my head. A secret that no one knew and a compulsion that I couldn't control. I told him I could tell difference between fantasy and reality but that I preferred my made up world over the real world. Even if I was in the middle of a very important lecture, or doing school work or chores or reading a book or trying to sleep or driving a car....

Again, he told me to get myself tested for ADD, but that's like $200!!

I went to this website and took a test based on symptoms: http://psychcentral.com/addquiz.htm

Basically there are three types of ADHD,

1) Hyperactive ; can't stop talking, always on the go, can't stay still
2) Inattentive ;  always distracted, daydreaming constantly, can't finish tasks
3) Combined ; you experience both hyperactivity and inattention

I scored low on hyperactivity but very high for inattention and the website said I had moderate ADHD of the inattentive type (ADD).

Has anyone here taken ADD/ADHD medication and has it helped you with daydreaming?

If no one responds then I might take Wellbutrin and then I will post the results in a new blog post but any comments would help me tremendously, I will be on the search for the cure until I find it!!!

Hi!

Ok, so it's been about 2 and half weeks that I've been taking it.  I can't tell that anything has changed yet.  But my doctor said that it could take 4-6 weeks to see any improvement.  I really, really, really hope it doesn't take that long.  As far as side effects, the most significant one has been muscle tremors.  It was pretty bad at first, but it's getting better as the days go by. I guess I just had to get used to it.

I don't have the bottle handy as I type this, but I will check on the amount.

Matt...I tried Paxil too and I was definitely not impressed with it either.  I hope the Wellbutrin is better.

Hey there cltreader,
please do post again if Wellbutrin is working. Update me on any side effects you may be experiencing and the amount you're taking currently. I'm going to see the Psychiatrist tomorrow to get my prescription.

Matthew, thank you. I hope this medication can help me!! I'm at the point where I don't know what to do with my life anymore.

Do let us know how you fare with the meds. I haven't decided if i will seek treatment again. The last drug i was on (paxil) was really bad. I've been on risperidone in the past. I don't know if it's similar to the antipsychotic you mention, but the effects were definitely the same. Good luck!

Hi! I just read your post. Coincidentally, I have just started taking Wellbutrin (about a week ago.) As of yet, there has been no change, but my doctor told me it could be several weeks before I really see a change. I think your idea of the movie "Walter Mitty" was brilliant! I wish I had thought of it.  I mentioned daydreaming to my doctor along with other symptoms and she immediately mentioned Wellbutrin.

I hope that it doesn't really take several weeks to see a difference, but I can post back later and let you know how it goes.
