MatthewR replied to Sidefire's discussion What genre does your daydreaming world typically reside in? Mine is the last thing others would expect.
"Oh, one more thing. There's another famous "bloody author." You may have heard of him. George R. R. Martin of Game of Thrones fame. I also think Martin has an inverted self-preservation instinct. I would type George R. R. Martin as…"

MatthewR replied to Sidefire's discussion What genre does your daydreaming world typically reside in? Mine is the last thing others would expect.
"Ok. So I'll be honest with you. I do have some violent thoughts. I do not act on said thoughts, however, and I don't really integrate them into any sort of narrative. But I get where you're coming from. For me, I experience it as a…"

MatthewR replied to Sidefire's discussion Daydreams and personalities
"This discussion crops up every few months. Lots of people have commented on this. From what I remember from past discussions, a majority self-identifed as INFP, INFJ, ENFP and INTJ, with a smattering of the other types. INFP was the most common, I…"

MatthewR replied to Blackosaur's discussion Missing social life. Is it because of MDD?
"I know what you mean. When I'm in a group, I feel even lonelier than when I'm actually alone. Being around people reinforces that sense of isolation. It's not the MDD, but something more fundamental that contributes to it. I'm…"

Fear and the Real Reason I Daydream

Posted on March 26, 2017 at 9:11pm 9 Comments

This is a long post, but here it goes...

Dd’ing is something i’ve done all my life. I started when i was 4 or 5 and just kept doing it. It’s fine for a child but problematic for an adult.

This is not to say that daydreaming is bad, but that dd’ing excessively serves a purpose that is unhealthy for me. Daydreaming is a way to get what i want without trying, to have great moments in my imagination without risking rejection, and to feel powerful without any…

The 3 Kinds of Daydreamers

Posted on March 24, 2017 at 9:45pm 12 Comments

This is just something from observation, but i get the impression that there are 3 kinds of people on this site:

  1. Neurotic Daydreamers - these are the dd’ers who are closest to the “maladaptive” definition. They use daydreams to sustain an idealized sense of self that compensates for low self-esteem, essentially “growing on the useless side of life” because these daydreams don’t improve our situation; they unconsciously serve to spare us the pain of real emotion and the…

Has Anyone Taken Paxil (Paroxetine)?

Posted on August 3, 2014 at 6:59pm 3 Comments

In the past couple of weeks I have been seeing a doctor for major depression, anxiety - especially social anxiety disorder. I also fit the profile of someone with an avoidant personality. When i was discussing my symptoms to the doctor I described my excessive compulsion to fantasize, how i pace, and how i can't focus sometimes because my urge to daydream is so powerful. My doctor didn't seem as interested in Maladaptive Daydreaming but assumed it was an aspect of being socially avoidant. I…
