Oh my freakin' gosh thank you for creating this site!!!! It's such a relief to know there are others with the same problem I have! And seriously, just to know what it's CALLED!!! I feel like I am so much closer to figuring out what to do about it! And more confident TALKING about it!!!
Thank goodness. Although I'm a wreck when they have to wear those collars. They look so pitiful. My 15 1/2 year old, Mr. Good Kitty is really going down hill. It's so sad. But he's looked like an old cat since he was young, and has been asthmatic for years. So my husband & I have always thought he would die young, and he's still here. So who knows.
Hello, I wonder if you can give me any advice. I'm a teacher and have a boy of 7 years old in my class. He daydreams alot and I was looking for ways to help him when I came across MD. He also has problems with socialising. At play times he will often pace up and down the playground on his own seemingly in his own little world. Most of the time he doesn't get much work done as he seems to be daydreaming. He also makes noises every now and then but doesn't seem to be daydreaming when he does this. He reads, spells and does most other things well for his age. I first thought he was showing slight symptoms of Aspergers. I spoke to him today and asked him to try and explain what happens when he looses concentration and he said "things come in through the window and get into my head". I know lots of children daydream every now and then but this is something more extreme and I'm pretty sure he is not deliberately not doing his work and it is something he has no control over. Are there any tips or anything that might have helped you when you were at school. Thank you in advance for any help you can give. Sam
Another thing. I thought I was on the verge of schizophrenia, dementia or sure to suffer a brain aneurysm or something with my constant over thinking and fantasizing. I wake up and the first thing that pops into my head is an elaborate fantasy, live of my alter ego, blah blah.
It doesn't help that I am an aspiring writer, so I live vicariously through my characters, living their lives in my head as if it's my own. I thought I could "write" the characters out of my head, but writing down the fantasy lives doesn't help, because I just move on to a new one.
Consequences? I am so forgetful, because it's so easy for me to slip into a fantasy world. I have lost stuff on the subway three weeks in a row, because I fell into fantasies. The last time I lost something, I hadn't gotten it back and had to pay $200 to replace it. Ouch! My biggest fear is that I'll slip into a fantasy while driving...I just hope that doesn't happen.
Also, I'd like the pacing to stop. I can walk past people and not notice them, because I'm a mind away.
Hi Cordellia, thank you for this site, if you or Cynthia need any help in your research please let me know and I will do everything I can. Keep up the good work xx
Thank you for letting me join. Your website is amazing! I can't put in to words what a great consolation it is to me to know there are others who can truly understand what I'm going through.
I have felt soalone and crazy for so many years! I almost cried when I found you and this site. My story is story is so similar to yours! I can't believe there are other people out there like me.
Thank You Cordellia. Nice to meet you. I've been reading through this forum for a couple of days. Just like many others I discovered the term 'Maladaptive Dreaming' on Google just the other day after spending my whole life wondering it was :)
Hi, How are you? How are your kitties? I have a phone consultation with an assistant to Dr. Daniel Amen, neuro-psychiatrist, on Thurs. See last couple entries in Longstanding DD & Facts Getting in Way (sasi's) . I couldn't access link to Sci Amer. article but am actually thinking your info on the home page might be the most efficient way to explain this, and back up with Cynthia's article. I only have 1/2 hour to explain. Any thoughts? I will see if she is interested in giving her thoughts on-line? Maybe in Longstanding DD forum. If not, I will just give her impressions there. Dr. Amen has a ton of books on the brain & thought he & assistant might find this syndrome very interesting.
Thanks, that worked fine. I'm still thinking, though, that your comments on the wall of your home page might be the best. I will also refer her to you. They brain-image people - for like $2000 - to look at brain when in love, when anxious, when praying, etc. I would love to have then brain-image someone while DD'ing, our style. Would you be available. They are in Berkley, Cal.
I, of course, would tell them they would have to pay for the scan & your transportation there. If I ordered another phone consultation for you, I would make it after 2 weeks and it would be paid for. I'll just play this by ear. If she has never heard of this, she may not be as interested as I think she would be. We'll see.
