I read that some people start having MD as a result of a trauma (whether immediate or long term) Did anyone else read that?

Yes, in fact it's a common misconception that MD is always caused by trauma. One of the initial doctors to study it found that, but that's been long since disproved. Sometimes MD is caused by trauma, but sometimes it isn't.
