I was reading on here and noticed someone asked if anyone had success in stopping their dd. I would like to share how I have stopped, by the grace of God. It's been on my heart to come back to this site and share what has helped me.
This is the verse I would like to explain from...
So I say, walk by the Spirit and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. Galatians 5:16-17
We are a 3 part being created in Gods image. We have spirit, soul (mind, will, emotions) and body (flesh). There is a war going on between flesh and spirit. Deep inside, our spirit wants to do the right thing, but we find ourself not doing it sometimes and caving into doing what we don't want to. The reason is because the flesh is stronger than the spirit, but it doesn't have to be this way. When you feed the flesh, you are making it stronger every single time you feed it. The spirit is weak because it isn't being fed enough. Every single daydream feeds the flesh. The flesh cries out, I want to dd and you cave in and give the flesh what it wants, it's hunger is satisfied... just for the moment though... then cries out again when it's ready for more.
This is where our soul comes in, our thinking and thought life is done in the soul realm. Our soul (mind) makes decisions. With our soul we decide to feed the spirit and with the soul we decide to feed the flesh.
Our soul is the link between the flesh and the spirit. Our soul is where we do the thinking, that in turn is what feeds the flesh when it thinks up fantasies.
We spend time feeding the flesh all day, watching tv, playing on Facebook, computer games, more or less entertaining ourselves as much as we can and this all feeds the flesh. Spending a few minutes in devotions with God and spending the whole rest of the day feeding the flesh, it's a wonder the spirit functions at all. We must feed the spirit. Ours spirit must become strong in order to win the battle when the flesh cries out to dd. Our spirit feeds on the Word of God.
Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Matt 4:4
The Word of God is alive and active. Hebrews 4:12
And yearn like newborn infants for pure, spiritual milk (Word), so that by it you may grow up to salvation. 1 Peter 2:2
The soul can decide to feed our spirit, and feed it more often.
It's not enough to just read something in the Word, but the way the Word truly gets deep into our spirit is by meditating on it. Using your soul (mind) we choose to think on the Word. As we read, read slowly, go over a verse, over and over to really grasp what's being said. Ponder on the Word throughout the day. Write verses that speak to you on index cards or on a phones notepad and read and meditate on them throughout the day. We also feed the spirit by prayer. Communing with God feeds our spirit. Ask our Father for strength and power by His Spirit within you. Praising God feeds our spirit, praise God throughout the day for His wonderful blessings. Acting upon the Word feeds our spirit, find verses that you can act upon, feed the hungry, clothe the poor, forgive your enemy, etc.
Spend more time feeding the spirit and as our spirit grows in strength, we over power the flesh, putting it into submission and weakening the flesh from crying out to us. The more we starve the flesh, the weaker the flesh becomes and the easier it is to not cave into it.
So there it is, what has brought me into a stronger relationship with God through my spirit and helped me to throw off everything that hinders (dd) .
...the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth. John 4:23
One last thing, when you cave to the dd, don't feel guilt and condemnation like you want to hide from God the way Adam and Eve did in the garden. When we are born again we are a new creation, a new spirit that is justified before God is able to walk straight to the throne of God with no guilt or condemnation because our spirit has been made righteous through Jesus' work on the cross. Boldly go to our Fathers throne. Jesus' blood covers our sin.
For there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ. Romans 8:1
