Where wild minds come to rest

Probably only people who need to move when they daydream can relate to this..I've recently realized that when I'm in my room or alone somewhere, I automatically start to move around and/or pace when I get into a daydream, but when I'm in the car (not driving) I can just stare out the window and get completely lost with my ipod in. It's probably the fast, turning motions of the car. Has anyone else noticed this about themselves? My favorite time to daydream is in the car on long rides with my music playing :) To me it almost feels like a "more sane" way of daydreaming haha I don't even feel the urge to make weird facial expressions

Haha I'm glad I'm not the only one! I totally know what you mean about the stopping thing, too, like when we're getting gas, I can't just sit there and keep daydreaming, I have to stop and focus on something else. And yes, I do! Usually I'll have to pace and kind of motion what the people in my daydream are doing, and I always make facial expressions. Haha it feels so weird to type it out, cause I feel like a crazy person. I don't even know what my mom or sister would think if they walked in and saw me...
I love long car trips too! Lisening to music makes me daydream. And I do find myself getting up pacing I usually do get up and pace. You know how hard it is to watch a movie or TV show without pausing it and pacing? I do that a lot. Though sometimes ill just have music playing and ill just stare at the wall. Ill usually lisnen to 3 or 4 songs, turn the music off and pace then go back to the music.

I've noticed similar things with myself as well. I tend to start off pacing in circles, or I'll be cleaning in the morning and start pacing and DDing without even catching myself transitioning. I tend to daydream in the back seat of the car as well.  It used to be really obvious whenever I daydreamed in the car as a kid, though. For some reason, my head would shake rapidly. O.o Doesn't do that in the car anymore, thank goodness. ^^;  As far as movies, reading, etc. goes... I just don't sit still, or I'll start discussing it out loud at times. Gets kind of frustrating for the people watching a movie with me. *coughs in embarrassment*

I usually have to spend a while pacing and daydreaming every day. My family just sort of knows it's something I do. I like daydreaming in the car, but I get carsick very easily so I prefer just walking or pacing.

I literally act out what I am doing in my daydream. I actually researched how to fire a crossbow because I was annoyed by just guessing how to fire one. If I am sitting down while daydreaming, it's usually just a slow talking scene rather than a fast-paced one. I think that when my parents aren't home, I walk at least 500 metres around my house. I also vocalize whatever I can, which is the only time I speak out loud in a perfectly clear voice. (Social learning impediment and a stutter pretty much mean that I can't talk perfectly clear to a human)

I also use objects that are lying around as placebos for objects in my daydreams. At the start of my latest 1 1/2 month long daydream, I used a crowbar (I was moving bricks with my dad) as a replacement for a metal pole (Part of a zoo cage).

I love daydreaming in the car! Especially when they are really long car drives :P I sit in the back corner (same spot every time) with my ipod really loud and I just daydream. When I'm not in the car, I go outside in my backyard, and swing on my swingset for hours on end! I'm seriously out there, more than I am inside. I always make weird facial expressions when I'm daydreaming, and if no one is there, or if I'm laying on my bed at night, I'll sort of act of the scenes or lipsync what they are saying. I never actually talk aloud though.

For some reason, when I'm outside on my swing, I can't stand if my family or other people are out there with me. Even if I can't see them, the fact that they are out there with me, bothers me enough to not be able to daydream. But in the car, it's completely different. I'm totally fine with other people, and they only bother me if they try talking to me. :P

Ok, awesome i am not the only one!!! I find it easier to daydream when i move and i love car rides because i find it easy to daydream when the car is moving. But like other people have said i can't daydream when the car stops, well i can but it is harder to do. I hate when you get to a traffic light. It is so annoying because i want the car to move!!! I normally daydream while listing to music and pacing. If i am daydreaming about a fight scene or something i sometimes spin or jump when i do some awesome attack. It is hard to daydream with people around i find.

haha i do this exactly, except when im alone in my room with the music i tend to do the movements my characters are doing while i pace (more like run sometimes). Love car rides, but trains are the absolute best. Music makes my daydreams 10 times better. I can do it without, but its not the same.

I'm the exact same way! Usually when I'm lisning to music ill bounce up and down or ill do this this where I lean back and forth, but when I'm in the car I don't have the erge to do it...I always have music playing on long car trips :) I hate it when we finally arive some where and we have to leave the music....(I use the car radio and at home I have a CD player. I don't really like IPods or MP3's) I totally get what you talking about :) weird how much stuff each MDer has in common..but its cool because people understand! :)
I do laugh cry and scream and I totally act out what there doing :) odly even though I've had this for a year I've never gotten caught pacing....well I keep my door closed and locked ever since I got this :) I've made facial expressions in public a couple of times without realizing it and it was SOOO embarassing....cause like it was at school at lunch and a lot of people saw.....its also embarassing when I brake out into a totally laughing fit and everyones just stares at me and is like "uh...what's so funny?"

I make facial expressions too! I even talk sometimes, scream, cry, yell. Oh,it does feel really weird writing this. lol!! When i'm walking in public with my music or dialogue(that's how i generally act out my daydreams with movie scenes) I keep a straight face, but i always feel like people are looking at me or can tell i'm daydreaming. It's hard to explain. My mom has walked in on me a lot pacing my room. I usually try to cover it up by bending over to pick up something i say that i'm looking for something because when she catches me my back is ALWAYS turned and she catches me by surprise. I hate it.
I act out everything too! Its funny because sometimes ill just be eating breakfast alone and like 5 minutes later I realize I'm talking aloud what my charcteters are saying. Its like a converstaion with one person. Ill raise and lower my voice like its a real conversation and ill laugh when someone says something funny and ill make facial expressions. I get really embarassed when I realize what I'm doing even though I'm alone in the kitchen. I think someone might have heard or something

Haha oops, I need to go on this site more often...I didn't even realize there had been more replies! I agree with Emily ^^ about the whole MDers having things in common. It's good to know that I'm not a total weirdo...er...not the only weirdo :) But I'm always scared that "normal" people can tell when I'm daydreaming! Sometimes I walk around my house and do it and I'll turn a corner and someone will be there so I have to act natural and hope they didn't notice anything odd lol
