I've started attending a support group called ASCA - Adult Survivor of Child Abuse. There are some chapters in major US cities. It's focused on healing from childhood abuse but I noticed that the more I deal with the abuse head-on the easier my MD is to control. Sort of like I'm working through the core issue of an addiction instead of just focusing on the addiction itself. It's not easy, as I'm starting to feel emotions that I've avoided all my life. I wanted to share this in the hope that it helps someone.

I will be attending a meeting tomorrow night. Adult Children of Alcoholics...I'm 50 years old and I believe I developed MD at an extremely early age as a coping mechanism...I'm kind of afraid of the emotional minefields I might be walking into

I reccomend taking it slow and getting comfortable with the group. It's important that you feel safe in the group before you start the heavy work. Good luck!
