I'm starting to wonder if the parts of the brain that are responsible for dreaming at night, during REM sleep are responsible for daydreaming as well. I've noticed recently, that my MD's are more prevalent in the mornings (as I am waking up) and the context of my daydreams are more unrealistic and troubling than they are throughout the rest of the day.

I've also found that the dreams I wake up and remember can trigger hour-long daydreams that follow the same themes while I am in the process of waking up.

I'm wondering if any one else has noticed this? Pay attention to your sleep habits throughout the week and if you have any night dreams, I recommend that you interpret them using www.dreammoods.com or borrow a copy of "The Element Encyclopedia of 20,000 dreams" from the library if they have it available. Interpreting dreams helps me to understand what's going on in my brain, as I am a master dissociater and I would not otherwise be able to tell myself how I feel about certain things going on in my life.

My daydreams are at their height in the evening when my body is more relaxed. Or when I'm really stressed.

Lack of sleep triggers a lot - probably becoz your mind and body need more rest, so your mind switches to the pleasant things instead. Mb it has to do with this either, as in the morning you're still not completely awake and thus your mind is willing to go into DDs more than during the day.

My nightdreams dont usually trigger me though, unlike you. I wish they had more from my daydreams in them tbh.

I usually don't daydream right after waking up as I usually follow a morning routine. What I've noticed is that I usually daydream when I've got nothing to do or I am particularly bored with something that I am doing, even if I am aware that it's something very important.

Yes, sometimes I do remember night dreams and continue them during the day. But there's this thing that I've been trying to do lately: Retrace my dreams (if I remember them) and try to associate things that I remember like the plot or the physical attributes of the characters in my night dreams to things or people (In movies or on televison) that I may have seen the previous day/s. And it usually does check out.
