I've concluded boredom and too much free time is the biggest cause for my day dreams.

It started when I was younger as an escape from bullying and social anxiety and now I use it for escape, comfort and entertainment.

Any tips on how to keep myself busy to stop doing it so much??? Desperately looking for a graduate job... but for an English student with social anxiety and poor communication skills it's not the easiest of tasks!

That's a great idea Roel. I used to write poetry when I felt low and it helped a lot. My mind races with thoughts when I DD so I'll definitely try and write something creative. Thanks for the advice :)

maybe try to convert some dreams into art? Many people here write or draw or paint or...

Unless you find that even more boring, you can give yourself something to do this way; whenever yiu dream of something, write it down or draw it or- It's productive in a way and it might stop some boredom?

I don't know if this would help in any way though. I'm just brainstorming here ;)

Yeah that sounds about right. It's probably my social anxiety that's the biggest cause and boredom that's the biggest trigger.

Boredom and free time aren't causes, just triggers. Being bored isn't enough of a reason to infest your mind with self-shattering virtual worlds. Something happened, or is happening to you that is significant enough to cause it, but it isn't boredom.

And yess Bee I'm amazed at how much we share on here sometimes. I'm trying to enjoy it all but you see sometimes it interferes with day to day life, focusing, social situations etc. It can be tiring for me.

Honestly talking on here helps more than anything.

Woooopsie I think I've deleted a comment somehow. . Padraic wherever you've gone lol.. thanks for the advice. I feel guilty sometimes too. I think it's because I wish I spent more energy in real world issues and not my DDs.

I'm with Paddy on this one. The anxiety related to trying to stop only makes the urge worse. Boredom and anxiety are a dangerous mix if you have MD.

And yes, it's pretty common with posters around here - we share a lot of interesting "quirks" ;)
