I think that my daydreaming is directly connected to the amount of time I spend with people around me. Since my break up with my girlfriend a week ago my day dreaming has sky rocketed. It has become much more clear and much more pervasive to my life. I can now vividly walk through my world as if it were real. This scares me. Can anyone help?

Maybe you need to allow and embrace the pain that this breakup has given you. There is a powerful mindfulness exercise that let's you do this, it let's you focus on a particular problem that pains you. I've only used it twice in my life but cried both times, something I rarely do. You will feel better (more grounded, more insightful) afterwards because you confronted it rather than escaped it.

Maybe you just need to relax ... Calm down
Reminiscing about the past and an over active mind isn't good... You should distract yourself with other things

This can be related to the universal plot scenario in romantic movies:

  • The couple break up (it's a romantic movie, so we know that they will eventually get back together, but right now, the cause seems lost ...)
  • We see one or both members of the broken couple lost in thought ...
  • Music plays ...

From a purely rational psychological point of view, a break-up is a situation where a major change in your life situation has happened, so anyone would tend to run through imaginary scenarios about what they are going to do next, and about what the rest of their life is going to be like.

I think it's just a fase, it will probably go back to the way it used to be, once you calmed down a bit. I'm sorry that you had a break up, but you know as well as me that things will be alright in the end ;). Stay strong!

Also, maybe you can use this to your advantage. You can expand your worlds even further, you can describe them better. Start writing or something ;). Changes aren't neccesairly bad.
However, don't worry. Panic is the worst thing that can happy to you, so don't be afraid. (I always panic and this makes things worse) Stay calm, observe, think and act.
I wish you the best luck :)
