Would Joining a Buddhist Monastery be the Solution to MDD?

I know it seems far out there but maybe 1 year under socially enforced mindful meditation would certainly help.  Are there any alternatives?  What do you think?

I found a month long retreat which might be just the answer.

I don't think a 12 step program will work because it relies too much on my own self discipline.

Well it's a extreme solution for an extreme case of MDD like mine.  I've had it since i was 4 years old and i am  hopelessly addicted.  I prefer to DD than to socialize, pursue an outgoing hobby, or work harder for better career advancement.  In short, my DD hinders me from caring about my future.  I've tried everything from self hypnosis, self meditation, supplements, exercising, to Marine Boot Camp.   All of these activities ultimately make my DD come back with a vengeance.  So right now i 'm at a loss for solutions.
