Hi,

I have no negative feelings on my day dreaming. I suggest everybody with this habit to think positive about it. If you think negative about a behaviour it can eat you up. Making friends with a habit is the best way to overcome it. I control my dual state of mind by chanting meditation. I feel I am blessed as I am able to handle two states of mind together. All the best for fellow members

Dear Iris

Your fighting spirit is really appreciable. Congrats,

I think , the key is to ride the tide and not go under it. I never engaged in the self pity. I fought to come out of it. Even the experience of depressive episodes. Just will power

I feel people who are DDS are quite strong as they can hold a a state of duality effectively.

I had no formal training on any of the coping mechanisms that I use. I just learn it from books or internet (caution is necessary). Chanting , I make my own chanting line, I don't repeat anything which I feel meaningless. But generally chanting or contemplative prayers are good stress relievers.

Loneliness is in the crowd ofcourse even when the family is around. I am not been able to help that part of it. I have seroius limitations in developing friends.

During teens and early adult I used to carve for companion ship and often daydream all about that. But today I enjoy being alone .

One video clipping that helped me was the power of ten . it simply tells you that even in outer space or your body , it is simply electron, proton and neutron. That gave me an insight of my existence and my relations to universe. This thoughts helped me overcome the loneliness as the tree in front of me also like me , and hence a friend of mine. So one day I may open up myself to whole universe.

Though I have not succeeded in social skills and I have reached a level I don't need them anymore.

Schedules are not big things. I keep an order in work. Eg: laundry is the first thing after my work hours followed by washing dishes, cleaning...... Just a simple order of work , which make me feel more confident not giving a way for depression to set in. All the very best.

Dear Sujaek,

thank you for your encouraging post. I'm interested in your ways of coping daydreaming. Once I was in a yoga-class, where we also sang mantras. I had the feeling that yoga and singing helped me a lot. I think I should do this again.

How do you do it? Do you do the chanting meditation in a group or by yourself? What do you mean with "combat loneliness"? Are you often alone or do you feel lonely in your family because of your daydreaming?

You also said that you developed a schedule. Do you make a schedule for every day and do you reserve time for daydreaming?

Like you I have children and lead a sort of normal life. But now I'm in a winter-depression and glad for every advice to lighten up.

Dear  Luis

You can succeed, by controlling it, what helped to get way from negative feelings is gratitude therapy (self learnt) and over excitations by chanting meditation. Completely stopping it is not a good idea.

Sujaek thanks for the reply.
I think in my situation the problem is that i may have become a little hypochondriac in the last past year and that what is affecting my daydream. Before i used to daydream all the time but i never really noticed it so it did not affected me in any way. Now i constantly worry about my health so when i noticed my constant daydreaming i saw it as a sign that i was going crazy or something bad. Now i undertanding that daydreaming doesnt mean that im crazy or incapable or doing things because i been daydreaming all my life and i been able to function just fine. On the other hand, constant daydreaming has not allow me to fully reach my potential because in my mind everything that i want will eventually come to come. I know this is not true and if i want something i have to work for it, but for me it is easier just to dream about it. Now my question is, can a be successful in achieving my goals even with my daydreams, or do i have to get rid out of the dreams in order to be successful .

I have always treasured my day dreams. They have helped cope in life. Over the past couple of years, medications have lessened my ability to day dream. I find I am less successful in professional endeavors, and any stressful situations. I miss them and want them back!

Dear luis,

I never got panic attack, but used to feel drained after negative thoughts. How I got out of it was long journey with many mistakes especially because I did not help myself. I simply thought everybody is like me. One thing that helped is spirituality( not religious). Also I am a researcher by profession. That helped to analyze everything and learned to have more constructive thoughts. It is journey. Take care

I found that when i daydream happy scenarios i feel fine. But when i start to worry and think about my condition that i cannot stop thinking i start to feel nervous and my negative thoughts begin to occur to the point that i feel like iam having a panic attack or i think the worse. Does thia happen to you? And how do you avoid?

Dear Thierry and Abner

I too had lots of negative thoughts, that was during late teens. Today as a mother of two and facing innumerable challenges of life, my negative thoughts slowly got processed towards positive thoughts. Something's which helped me are 1. Developing a schedule 2. Train mind for positive thoughts 3. Combat loneliness through meditation. I am not successful completely but could conquer much of it . Thierry seems to be affected more , may be you should try develop habits to conquer it at once in your own positive way. Thanks

I usually think positively about my daydreams. Usually. But like @Thierry said, sometimes things get a little weird. And occasionally tragic or scary things, such as wars or natural disasters, happen in my daydreams.
