How Many People Do You Think Really Have MD?

(To start with I want to say this post was inspired by a blog by Roobles. Thanks Roobles!)

I think that more people than you could ever imagine have MD. Think about how many people might not have access to a computer and therefore wouldn't be able to find this website or any other website about MD. And then there are the people who just have never bothered to actually search to find out what they might actually have. A lot of people say when they first join this site that they've had this forever and only just found out what it is. So how many people are still out there and just haven't done any research on the matter? I also think that a lot of novelists, screenwriters and actors possibly have MD. MD gives you a lot of creativity. There are always these characters, scenarios, and plot lines running through your head. One reason that my character is an actor is so I can stay in the same DD but act out other DDs that pop into my head. I also write a lot because sometimes I come up with these ideas and just need to get them out. I've actually read that some writers act out scenes to their book or play in their head to make sure that the dialogue sounds right. I know that a lot of writers and actors are rather eccentric people so the fact that some of them (or a lot of them) have DD makes sense. I read a quote once from Angelina Jolie that said that her favorite part about being an actress was getting the chance to be someone else and to live someone elses life for a little while. She also said that if she wasn't an actress and didn't have that outlet to her other personalities she would go crazy. Kinda sounds like she might have MD right?

There are also other people in my family who I think might have MD but I don't dare bring it up with them. My uncle (who committed suicide a few years ago) was constantly whispering to himself. He still lived with my grandparents and was very much a loner. I think he either had schizophrenia or severe MD. My cousin (who I spent most of every summer with during my childhood) also had it I think. We actually used to act out DDs together. I didn't think of them as DDs at the time but thats what they were. When I was 7 or 8 I told him that I did it by myself a lot and he said he did too. I don't know if he still does or not. I'm actually thinking about approaching him about it. My little sister also I think might do it. I don't know if I dare ask her about it and I'm not sure she would tell me the truth anyway. But she spends a lot of time holed up in her room and I recognize in her some the same things I used to do when I DD'd more than I do now. She also is a bit of a loner and doesn't have many friends at school.

You said it really well, don't worry about that lol. I just had some points I wanted to add. I think you make a very good point. Society has made us feel like being different is a bad thing so instead of looking at out DDs as something good (like an outlet for our creativity) we hide it and are ashamed of it. I hope thats one thing that comes out of people like us, sites like this, and the research that is being done on MD. I hope someday it will be more well known and more understood and people won't have to be ashamed of it.

Thanks Stacey, you said my point exactly how I wanted to say it but better. I'm glad you understood my post im not good with any launguage even my mother tounge english and sorry for if stupidly posting it twice !!

Who has openly spoken to others that they day dream a lot? And why don't they its not something to be ashamed off. But for some reason no one does so therefore it seems like it is just a topic that is never diss used but try opening up to people (I am very open as I don't really care what people think of me) and you find that a lot of people are daydreamers.not everyone and not even half but a fair few.

Exactly with the writers and screenplay. Diddnt j k rowling get her inspiration from sitting in a cafe probably daydreaming the charictors. How would lord of the rings, twilight , xmen, hunger games all been thought up without daydreaming and imagination.

I think that instead of trying to change our own personalities to fit in with the norm we should bring daydreaming out of the closet so to speak and change society's view on it.

There is negative aspects to dd where it may become maladaptive as we can't do anything but daydream and I think support to help controll it should still be in place as most of the dders including myself I recently met often stay in the same position at work instead of pushing themselves forward even though it's there aspirations as they see life as a dream not the other way around.
