Why we are proud of daydreaming ?...

I mean I see people on the site somehow proud of MDD ..Is it something to be proud of ...a disorder really ??

Daydream has always kept us in an empty circle ..always daydreaming ...wasted our times

We all started DD as a coping mechanism for loneliness maybe just emptiness and feeling bored

we dreamed of a better life ..Is that what we get ?imaginations

We wanted to live an amazing life ...We are split between two worlds and we are not living in those too we are distracting ourselves from being real ..instead of living it we wanted the day to end ...what we really wanted is what we are abandoned from it ..To LIVE ...TO HAVE GREAT MOMENTS...

Have we ever calculated the price of sacrifice we are doing for the joyful moments in DD ? Do we know what we really miss ?

How come we value life and moments ??! Can we realize that the way we love for ourself turned out to be our own misery and distraction !!

Do you know that if our lives was really great we won't even think of daydreaming....it is dependence to feel good and affirmation...

My wish is that we can be courage enough to handle pain than to daydream ...it is not our answer ...won't lead us to anything

There is a right and wrong way to seek life ...there is sanity and disorders...

IF we can be free from DD and from the problem that caused it go back we left our true US ..We wont need to daydream because reality has a value than a thousand daydreams ...while daydream root your problem deep reality show it and help you get better ..we will feel inside ourself that we are ENOUGH ..we need NOTHING to make us feel better..Connect to reality TO PEOPLE ...found a safe place ..CHANGE UR MIND from being satisfied about dreams ..U who have always dreamed for a better life deserve a better one really !

@darmody first there is still research about it but it is still a disorder for life ...I m discussing what is really is for me ...It is addiction like action and again I don't talk about the gift to dream ..I m talking about using it wrong and fall under the control of it : )

@maro..."I m not talking about the gift to dream and picture things and be creative"

But other are people are, and they lack ways to talk about it outside the phrase "MDD." Bear that in mind when you post, "I mean I see people on this site somehow proud of MDD ..Is it something to be proud of ...a disorder really ??"

There aren't any places I've found on the internet to talk about intensive daydreams except sites about the disorder. Which is a shame, because I'm less interested in pathologizing my ability than discussing it as it really is. Which includes good things and bad.

@maro..."there is no widely accepted term for the ability to intensively daydream for a reason"

Yes, because not enough people know it exists. Those who do largely keep it to themselves. I always assumed I wasn't the only one who did it, but it took over 30 years for me to confirm that I'm not alone. And I knew what to look for.

The term "MDD" wasn't coined long. Prior to that, I may have dismissed your concerns about it by saying, "there's a reason there's no disorder that covers what you're talking about."

@Max:first I wish the best for you : ) i wish u realize that life is livable ..you wont be dead without DD..quite the opposite you will live being totally aware is great ...think about the courage to live and change those dreams to reality..make life be that colorful and simple so you don't bear the negative effect

-------------------------------------------------------------------

You dont think also it is a coping mechanism or  you started it as a coping mechanism but what about now ? I wanna know why you daydream if it is not at least now a coping mechanism to survive

@Darmody ...look there is no widely accepted term for the ability to intensively daydream for a reason...distraction is not good for life in general ..we cant live in two worlds..mostly we live in daydreams and want to just survive n reality..you cant say DD make no distraction for you it is two different worlds ..normally dreams is not where we live..Dreams is really good except when it replaces life..it meant to be helping you to have a better life read comments ...there is negative effect of MDD..I m not talking about the gift to dream and picture things and be creative..I m talking about that is not a productive thing if "creativity " destroyed your reality .If you can focus on both then you dont have maladaptive DD

@source : I admit I feel you are really wise ...I realize truth needs courage to face ...I think even pain in reality means we still feel..DD make me not aware of what going in real life ...Life is that mixture of pain and love and happiness and because we feel pain so we get our defense mechanism make us not feel really any of those feeling completely ..idk i just think..instead of deceive ourselves we can find alternative in interaction, connections  and acceptance ..seeking life again..see what we missed..I dont think it is healthy to just stop in a day ..I say life worth living..we can live it really well as we dreamed of it really well ;)

Hi maro. What you wrote was extremely well said. The comments mentioned by others here are also very true, and actually explain why it's so hard to simply let go of daydreaming. However, what you wrote truly resonated with my feelings and experiences regarding this condition called MALADAPTIVE daydreaming. Daydreaming here and there isn't bad, but the excessive nature has messed up the quality of my existence and perception of myself. If I could have one wish fulfilled, it would be to get back the 16 years I've wasted on pacing and just daydreaming 24/7, instead of finding more productive, "real-life" ways to feel un-lonely or un-bored.

Thanks again for writing this <3. I want to make this a source of motivation to tone down my constant daydreaming.

"Is it something to be proud of ...A disorder really ??"

It's not just a disorder (if it is a disorder). There's no widely accepted term for the ability to intensively daydream, so people are compelled to use the pathological term. That's part of your problem.

I see no reason why people can't be proud of their ability to have intensive daydreams, same way people are proud of having photographic memories, for instance, or being able to visualize math problems. Not everyone can do it, and it's not always a mental disease.

"We all started DD as a coping mechanism for loneliness maybe just emptiness and feeling bored"

Says who? That may be true for some intensive daydreamers, maybe even most of them. But I have done it since before I can remember. I even have memories of doing it with my shoelaces in a carseat, so I imagine it must go back to age 3 at least. I had a happy childhood, and I sincerely doubt it started as a coping mechanism.
