Wild Minds Network

Where wild minds come to rest

Does your obsession with a certain character cause a biased feeling towards other characters in the same type of genre? For example... let's say your character is Bruce Lee. You spend large amounts of time in your life pacing or repeated body movements to thoughts of Bruce Lee. You keep replaying scenes from Enter the Dragon. Would it be common for somebody with this disorder to reject Jackie Chan or Jet Li or any other type of character in that genre because of their obsession with Bruce Lee? Maybe you know every little detail about Bruce Lee's life and movies but nothing about any other martial art hero.

When I enjoy a character, I don't find myself rejecting similar characters, but instead wanting to incorporate more characters who are close to them into my daydream. For example, many years ago I would MD about the TV show Taxi. In particular, one actor was my favourite so I MD'd about him constantly. But my MD became more enjoyable when I brought in the rest of the cast. I also did this with people I worked with. If I MD'd about one person, I'd include others I worked with to complete a cast of characters.

Funny you mention kung-fu actors though. I used to have a crush on Jackie Chan when I was a teen. But all that did was pique my interest in finding more kung-fu actors to watch and enjoy, sort of like scouting for more characters for a new MD.
